Borenius advised Pure Data Centres Group on one of Europe’s largest AI infrastructure projects in Seinäjoki, Finland

Our Projects & Construction and Energy & Infrastructure advisers, as part of our cross-practice Data Centre team, assisted Pure Data Centres Group (Pure DC) on the launch of what will become one of Europe’s largest AI infrastructure projects – a major data centre campus to be built in Seinäjoki, Finland.

The team led by Partner Emma Niemistö and supported in particular by Senior Associate Iida Mäkimattila and Counsel Kiira Björkroth advised Pure DC on the construction and energy workstreams for the project, working alongside multinational law firm Pinsent Masons’ UK team.

The first phase of the project comprises a 110 MW data centre facility with an investment value of approximately EUR 1.5 billion. The wider campus site is planned to be capable of scaling to more than 550 MW of capacity, with total investment in the project expected to exceed EUR 7.5 billion, representing the largest ever UK investment into Finland.

Pure DC is a global innovation-driven developer and operator of large-scale data centres, backed by investment manager Oaktree Capital Management and specializing in mission-critical digital infrastructure for global hyperscalers. The Seinäjoki campus is Pure DC’s first foray into development in the Nordics, and is set to play a significant role in supporting Europe’s growing demand for AI and cloud infrastructure.
